NEW DELHI:The royal march of the common man’s Aam Aadmi Party towards the throne of Delhi has set the politicos from opposition parties ‘atwitter’ with gay abandon. At the time of writing this article AAP was leading at 66 seats of a total of 70, and the BJP had been clearly decimated.
West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee was among the first to draw BJP blood with, “ This is a victory for the people and a big defeat for the arrogant and those who are doing political vendetta & spreading hate among people”.
Exulting with a sense of vindication having been on the receiving end of the BJP stick, she tweeted again,” My congratulations to all the Delhi voters, AAP workers and leaders for big victory. Well done to you. All my best wishes. We are very happy”.
The Politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) that had informally asked its cadres to vote for AAP, issued the following statement, “The Aam Aadmi Party, under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, has won an unprecedented and resounding mandate in the Delhi assembly election. The CPI(M) congratulates the people of Delhi for decisively rejecting the Bharatiya Janata Party. This massive mandate should enable the new government to adopt and implement policies in favour of the aam aadmi”.
Accepting the Congress party’s disgraceful performance with grace former Minister and now MP, Shashi Tharoor tweeted,” Today is @AamAadmiParty 's day in Delhi. Congratulations @ArvindKejriwal . All the best in making India's capital a gr8place for all Indians”. The Congress did not win a single seat in Delhi.
However, Tharoor didn’t lose the chance to take a dig at the most boastful contender in the fray, the BJP. He retweeted a post reading “Things that led to BJP defeat- 1. Fringe Hindu groups running amok. 2. Bedi/Ilmi/Swamy. 3. P I N S T R I P E”.
AAP leader Kumar Vishawas, known for his searing and often controversial comments, chirped “ Even if BJP gets less thn 7 seats we will give LOP to BJP” feigning magnanimity under the cloak of a biting sarcasm.
Subsuming all the bitterness which he had been spewing for the last few months against the “anarchists” and “naxalites”, PM Narendra Modi, too, congratulated AAP. “Spoke to @ArvindKejriwal & congratulated him on the win. Assured him Centre's complete support in the development of Delhi”, he said on twitter.
