Upcoming Indian GT racer Akhil Rabindra has announced his move to the GT4 European series for the 2018 season. The Bangalore-born driver will drive for the 3Y Technology team alongside Belgian racer Stephane Lemeret in the new BMW M4 GT4 car in the Silver class.

"I am excited to race with 3Y technology in the European GT4 championship with Stephen Lameret in the new BMW M4 GT4," said Rabindra. "It will be exciting to race with such a large and competitive grid on some of the greatest track across Europe. I look forward to my season this year with some great results."

The Indian will be in his second full year in the GT category after making a switch from single-seater racing last year in the British GT, driving the McLaren 570S for the Garage 59 squad. He made the European GT4 move after testing the BMW car in Barcelona few weeks back.

The French team will field two more cars in the championship, with French pair Sylvain Debs and Gwenael Delomier driving in the Am category, while the Pro-Am class will have Brazilian Luiz Floss with Belgian Jamie Vandenbalc.

Team manager Guillame Maillard added: "I am extremely happy with the driver pairings for the GT4 European series. We have a good mix between young up-coming talent and experience. We expect great things from Akhil Rabindra and Stephane Lemeret in the Silver Cup.

“We will aim for podium finishes every race. The GT4 European Series is the toughest GT4 championship in the world so the task will not be easy." This is also the first time for BMW in the series, which has Mercedes, Porsche, McLaren, Aston Martin, Audi, KTM, Chevrolet, Maserati and Ginetta already in the line-up.

The season starts next week during April 7-8 at Circuit Zolder, Belgium, followed by Brands Hatch, UK (May 5-6), Misano, Italy (June 23-24), Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium (July 21-22), Hungaroring (September 1-2) and Nurburgring, Germany (September 15-16).

The GT4 series will form a support event to the Blancpain GT Sprint Cup in five of the six rounds in the 2018 season, apart from the Spa-Francorchamps weekend.
