In the post-match interview, the 47-year old, England manager and coach, Gareth Southgate said, “We had to withstand a lot of physical pressure but the resilience of the team and the togetherness of the team, I think today was crucial.” Talking about the Sweden team he said, “They were really well organised. They make life really tough and over the years we have underestimated them and I think our spirit was as good as theirs and our quality a little bit better.”

He further said, “I mean Russia in Moscow would be an incredible game to be involved in wouldn’t it so let’s see. We enjoy tonight, I hope everybody at home enjoys tonight because as we know it's not often this happens.”
