SRINAGAR: The Centre is imposing ‘Doval Doctrine’ in Kashmir and preparing stage for fresh spell of unrest this summer to "cripple the economy" of the state, Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani said.
Reacting to the report prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs that proposes to impose restrictions on media and mosques among other issues to bring normalcy to the violence-affected Valley, the Hurriyat said it will be followed by making arrests of “freedom-loving people” to “cripple our economy so that people won’t pursue their freedom movement”.
“The Doval Doctrine is being implemented after a signal and due approval from Indian home ministry. Accordingly they will arrest more and more youth, implicate Hurriyat leaders in false cases, put undue curbs on media and they are looking to control mosques and religious schools through their blue eyed religious clerics”, the Hurriyat said.
In a recent report submitted to the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the Home Ministry has also advocated to engage the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference to deal with the political situation in the Valley and revival of the infamous Special Operation Group “as it was done in 2002” to tackle the surge in militancy.
The “assessment report”, which makes no reference to Pakistan, has been prepared after securing inputs from ground and it suggests long-term “actionable points” to change the political atmosphere by controlling the “widespread cult of wahabiam” and strengthening the elected representatives of the state legislature.
The Hurriyat led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, whose tenure as chairman was extended by one year on Sunday, said the report indicates that the government is “trying to create disturbances in the State”, “India and its agencies are preparing stage for one more bloodshed in this year. State authorities are denying any political space and people are not allowed to raise their genuine voices.”
“Their strategy is to launch their feverish designs from the onset of upcoming summer. They intend to spread rumours, create harassment by employing more harsh measures through their forces and agencies and this way they are expecting reaction & resentment from people. They just want to justify the policy of killings, maiming and snatching eyesight from innocents and disturbance in business through their deceitful tactics and provoke people (sic),” the Hurriyat Conference said.
The Hurriyat said despite the devastating floods in 2014 and six months of curfew in the Valley last year, people have resolved to “pursue the freedom and ..... despite all these disturbances, their business has stabilised and is improving further”.
“Indian agencies have formulated short and long term policies to destabilize our economy. As per this strategy, and at first stage they have started to spread malicious, unauthorized news and rumours and it is followed by arresting youth from every corner of state,” it said.
Meanwhile, reacting to the Home Ministry report, Dukhtaran-e-Millat, a constituent of Geelani led Hurriyat, said it has raised apprehensions that “Hindutva is being enforced in Kashmir”.
“Indian authorities and their intelligence agencies including NSA want us to follow the Islam that they are comfortable with. But no power on earth can dictate us as to what to follow and what not when it comes to the teachings of Islam”, the chairperson of DeM Aasiyah Andrabi said in a statement.
