NC Says Ball is in PDP Court to Form 'Secular' Govt
National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar
NEW DELHI: As suspense and politicking over the formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir continues, the National Conference (NC) has made it clear tht the onus lies on the Peoples Democratic Party to steer clear of the BJP nd form a government with the secular forces.
The NC has in the process extended full support to the PDP.
While talking with The Citizen over phone, National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said “We have offered our support to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to form the government. We can’t ally with the BJP as NC can never compromise on Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. We can’t overthrow our ideology and the State's Special Status for petty power.”
The NC strongman added "If we were power hungry we could have formed a Government in J&K, but we are guided by principles and a political ideology that is rooted deep in the aspirations and sentiments of our people”.
Sagar, who has been re-elected from the Khanyar assembly segment, said it is known that the PDP wants to form the government with BJP as Mufti’s owe a debt to the BJP since it was the BJP that funded and supported them to form this party.
“The PDP should break its deep silence and ask the people very honestly that BJP is the real owner of PDP. PDP was formed to divide the people of Jammu and Kashmir and fragment their representative voice, which is seen in the present times,” he said.
On being asked about the reason behind the NC’s weak performance in the polls, Sagar said PDP’s vote was an anti-incumbency vote that failed NC.
“At the same time we should know that PDP also failed as they were riding with high hopes. They were shouting slogans of PDP wave. What has happened to that wave? It only turned out to be a farce as the results demonstrated.
Hoping that PDP forms an alliance with his party, Sagar concluded “NC hopes that PDP forges alliance with NC for the larger interest of the State”
