SRINAGAR: Former Chief Minister and opposition NC legislator Omar Abdullah Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that some Kashmiri students being trained under the Udaan scheme are facing harassment outside the Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar informed the Assembly during Question Hour of receiving a number of distress calls, particularly in the last 24 hours, by students who are being trained under the scheme outside the state.
“I am receiving distress calls since 12 am and students alleged that they were facing harassment in their hostels,” he said.
Omar said the students are facing problem in their hostels and the police is not willing to take any action or even help them.
“It is very unfortunate that our people living outside the state are facing problems and police is not helping them,” the former CM said.
He told the government to take necessary action and shared the addresses and cell numbers of the students with the Speaker and Deputy Chief Minister.
He, however, did not disclose the location of the students in the House.
Omar said he has been time and again saying that people of Kashmir were facing problems outside the state. He sought immediate redressal and action of their problems.
Responding to Omar Abdullahs’s concerns, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh said the government would look into the matter and help the students.
“I met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and our government has prepared a plan under which our ministers will be hooked to monitor all the states where J&K students are studying,” he said.
Khatri said the move will restore confidence of students and they won’t face any problem anymore.
