Blatter Resigns And The Internet Wins

NEW DELHI: I woke up today to a post-Blatter world. Long reigning Fifa monarch Sepp Blatter has resigned. The announcement came a few days into Blatter being re-elected for a fifth (yes fifth) term. It followed seven top Fifa officials being detained in Switzerland, with a total of 14 people being indicted. The US Dept of Justice is investigating allegations of corruption. All of this has shook the Football world, but comes as no surprise to its millions of ardent followers and fans (I mean Qatar 2022, really?).
#BlatterOut is trending on Twitter. In addition to being not surprised, football fans are happy. Very, very happy. Blatter’s resignation from the football governing body signals hope for the sport. It reaffirms the prospect of reform -- finally.
So, like I said, we’re very happy. And what better way to express an emotion in the day and age of the internet than through memes?
